Weekend Round-Up – Week 3

It’s all about riding in sunny conditions (and in a shopping mall)

While on the other side of the world the World Tour peloton officially started their season with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under, our sponsored Pro Continental teams from Belgium and The Netherlands are enjoying their training camps in exotic weather under the Spanish sun.

The riders are working hard to get into the perfect shape for the upcoming season. And they don’t stop when they are off the bike. This year the boys of Wanty started to do some yoga sessions for the first time on their training camp in Benidorm to keep their body more flexible for the long hours in the saddle.

Team Dimension Data Down Under

After the national road racing championships in Australia where Team Dimension Data reached their first podium spot, the winning mood continued last weekend in the prerace event of the Tour Down Under. In the People’s Choice Classic Reinardt Jense van Reinsburg could climb the podium to receive the price for best sprinter of the day. He won the opening sprint prime and took the 2nd place in the next prime as well. Ending up in the final bunch sprint as sixth, it was enough for him to take a trip to the podium. “We were really having some fun out there today. It’s good to get the season started and it was great that we could do so with such an enjoyable criterium”, let’s Reinardt know after the race. In the opening stage of the Tour Down Under it was a high speed bunch sprint again and this time Mark Renshaw finished 2nd, becoming the first Dimension Data rider to end up on the podium on a World Tour race. Mark was very satisfied after his race: “I am very happy to be on the podium here in the first stage of the  Tour Down Under. This is the 14th time I start the Tour Down Under and it’s a pleasure to be here with my new team. The team rode well today and Tyler did a perfect job of putting me behind the Sky riders to start my sprint in the front of the bunch.”

Biking in a mall

Offroad was plenty of action as well last weekend. With an exciting event planned in Hannover, the boys of the Radon Magura Factory Team had a very special task ahead of them. It was a hit and run in a shopping mall in the German city. A bunch of wild bikers were pushing their pedals hard and took the escalators like nobody ever did before in this mall. Check out the awesome video! In the end, new boy Johannes Fischbach was the one that took his shopping goods to the finish fastest. It’s his first victory in Radon gear. After this event, shopping will never be the same again anymore!
