What size rim tape do I need?
When it comes to ensuring a secure and reliable tubeless setup for your bike, choosing the right rim tape is essential. We offer a range of rim tape sizes to accommodate various rim widths and provide a proper seal.
Rim tape is applied to the inner surface of the rim, acting as a protective barrier between the spoke holes and the inner tube or tubeless setup. It helps prevent punctures, ensures an airtight seal, and enhances overall tire performance.
The choice of rim tape size is closely related to the type of rim you have, which can be classified as either hooked or hookless. Traditional clincher rims, known as hooked rims, have bead hooks that hold the tire in place. On the other hand, hookless rims lack these bead hooks and have a straight vertical edge. The type of rim affects the inner width of the rim as you can see on the picture at the right.
To select the appropriate rim tape size, it's crucial to measure the inner width of your bike's rim accurately. Additionally, consider the type of rim you have, as hookless rims often require wider rim tapes to ensure a proper fit and seal. When measured, add an additional 2-4mm to the inner width of the rim and it will be securely sealed and covers the spoke holes effectively.
Choosing the correct rim tape contributes to a reliable tubeless setup and minimizing the risk of flats. Explore our selection of rim tapes and enjoy a hassle-free and secure riding experience.
